Before reading Halloween Safety Tips For Children, let’s read the facts about Halloween.

Here are the 9 facts children should know about Halloween Day:

  1. Halloween or Hallowe’en otherwise called Allhalloween, All Hallows’ Eve, or All Saints’ Eve, is a festival observed in various countries on 31st October.
  2. Halloween started as the celebration of Samhain. It was a piece of the ancient Celtic religion in Britain and different parts of Europe.
  3. By the end of summer, the Celts thought the distance between our world and the ghosts’ and spirits’ world got reduced. They trusted it was the time when ghosts and spirits turned out to frequent, and the Celts would satisfy the spirits by giving them treats.
  4. Halloween is the evening prior to the Christian sacred days of All Hallows’ Day (otherwise called All Saints’ or Hallowmas) on 1st November and All Souls’ Day on 2nd November, hence giving the holiday on 31st October the full name of All Hallows’ Eve (which means the evening prior to All Hallows’ Day).
  5. Straddling the line between fall and winter, bounty and scarcity, life and passing, Halloween is a period of festivity and superstition. So, it is thought to have begun with the ancient Celtic celebration of Samhain when individuals would light campfires and wear Halloween costumes to avoid wandering ghosts.
  6. Americans commend the conventions of Halloween by dressing in costumes and telling stories of witches and ghosts.
  7. Children visit from house to house to follow the custom of “Trick or Treat”. So, they knock on entrance doors and call out “Trick or treat!” on the evening of 31st October expecting to have their packs loaded with sweets.
  8. Pumpkins are carved into frowning jack-o-lanterns. There is an old Irish legend known as Stingy Jack. He was scared to roam alone in the darkness between heaven and hell. He hollowed out a turnip and placed an ember (given to him by the devil to lighten his way), turning it into a lantern.
  9. Similarly, we should also hollow out ourselves and throw out the negativity. Carve a smile and two wide eyes to explore the beautiful world. Thereby, we should light ourselves with positivity and enlighten our path of life with the same.
